This is another purpose built resort. It is in one of the valleys that make up the Three Valleys Ski area. The other resorts included in this region are Meribel, Montaret and Val Thorens. Unfortunately the week that I was here the link between the Courcheval valley and Meribel was closed due to poor weather. I was unable to do much skiing here due to an injury but I would like to return one day to ski the rest of the 3 Valleys. Like Les Arcs, Courcheval is made up of a number of small villages known by their height. The lowest resort is at 1300m, 1550 and 1650 are the middle two resorts and 1850 is at the top. This is an expensive resort particularly when we visited when the exchange rate was not as favourable as it is today. We were staying in Courcheval 1550, near the bubble lift up to 1800. Many of the lifts in Courcheval are telecabin, which enable non-skiers to get around the resort easily. The top lift station can be reached by a couple of telecabin and a cable car. The skiing is suitable for most standards with a wide range of pistes from narrow pathways to wide cruising blue runs. The black runs in the couloirs beneath the Saulaire cable car are particularly infamous.
