Selva Gardena

Selva is a sprawling village in the Italian Dolomites close to the Italian - Austrian boarder.

Selva is on the Sella Ronda, a ski circuit consisting of two circular routes around the Sella massif. One route runs clockwise the other anticlockwise. The circuit is very popular and lift queues can be very long so ensure that you leave plenty of time to complete the run. You are skiing for about two hours and spend another hour and a half on the lifts. Skiing the Sella Ronda is mostly on blue and red runs so it is ideal for intermediate skiers who just want to cover as many miles as possible.

As well as the Sella Ronda, Selva has plenty of skiing in its own valley, Val Gardena. The valley is divided up into several ski areas of which not all are linked. From the village of Selva you can ski the Dantercepies area which is mostly red runs ending in a nursery ski area. This area is part of the Sella Rhonda. The next area is Plan de Gralba. This area is mainly a large bowl full of blue runs, ideal for cruising. The Ciampinoi area is linked to Plan de Gralba. It is in this area that you have the famous Saslong piste used for the mens World Cup downhill. The Saslong piste finishes in the village of St Chistina. From this village you can get to the next two ski areas, Col Raiser and Seceda. Both areas are mostly south facing red and blue runs. From Seceda there is a 18 km red run down into the third village in the valley Ortisei. From here you can access the Alpe di Siusi and Seiser Alm ski areas.

Val Gardena is covered by two lift passes. If you indend to stay in this valley only you can get a local lift pass. If you want to be able to explore further or do the Sella Rhonda you can purchase the Dolomiti Superski Pass. This covers you for 12 different resorts (including Cortina) in the Italian Dolomites with 460 lifts and 1220 Km of ski runs.
